Nadia Yangui

#TeamMVMNT

Nadia is a 64kg weightlifter out of Alberta, Canada and has competed internationally at Pan American Championships and Senior Worlds. When she’s not training, she’s most likely working! She’s a registered nurse in the NICU. She’s a hard working lady, inside and outside of the gym!

WHAT GOT YOU INTO WEIGHTLIFTING?

I learned how to weightlift when I did track and field, I did CrossFit for a few years and found I excelled in the strength events and wanted to see how far I could go if I focused strictly on weightlifting.

“I am motivated by the fact that I want to be the best possible athlete I can be.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MVMNT VIDEO?

“PANDA”! I always come back to it for ankle mobility.

WHAT CONTINUES TO MOTIVATE YOU IN YOUR TRAINING?

I enjoy training most when my motivation comes from within. I am motivated by the fact that I want to be the best possible athlete I can be, whether that means making more international teams, becoming more technically proficient, or getting stronger. I try to find small wins in training each day and ultimately lift for me.

“My ultimate achievement would be to reach my full potential as an athlete.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LIFT?

Clean & jerk!

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT IN WEIGHTLIFTING? AND WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ULTIMATE ACHIEVEMENT IN THE SPORT?

I have made 3 Pan American teams and 1 world team, in both the 64kg and 71kg weight classes.

My ultimate achievement would be to reach my full potential as an athlete, which seems vague but I think I will know when that time comes.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SNACK?

Do those little truffle Lindt chocolate balls count as a snack? :)

WHEN YOU'RE NOT IN THE GYM, WHERE CAN PEOPLE USUALLY FIND YOU?

I work full time as a NICU RN, I work days / nights 12 hour shifts. So I’m either at work or training :) ...or sleeping.

IF YOU WERE ON DEATH ROW, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR LAST MEAL?

Wow what a morbid question lol 😆. Probably pizza and some quality cookie dough ice cream.

“I couldn’t even do a full squat snatch from lack of mobility. Now I can comfortably sit in the bottom of a snatch thanks to Mobility MVMNT.”

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU KNOW WILL HELP YOUR PERFORMANCE, BUT HAVEN'T STARTED YET?

I like to think I do everything I can to be the best possible athlete I can be.

WHAT IMPROVEMENTS IN YOUR PERFORMANCE IN THE GYM HAVE YOU NOTICED SINCE STARTING A REGULAR MVMNT PRACTICE?

My overhead squat / snatch position!!! I can tell a huge difference in videos from a couple years ago, I couldn’t even do a full squat snatch from lack of mobility. Now I can comfortably sit in the bottom of a snatch thanks to Mobility MVMNT!
